On a beautiful warm day in June we had the pleasure of hosting a hook in and lunch with the Marbleous Mat Makers of Corner Brook. We first became aware of this group about 7 years ago when Roy discovered rug hooking and was invited to join the group who met weekly at Sobeys for an afternoon of rug hooking and socializing, There are often 15-20 members hooking and chatting at these afternoon events. Both Roy and Blake have been enjoyed membership in the group and attended many other courses and events with various members.
Of course Covid19 put a stop to weekly group meetings but smaller groups have met a few times and we were pleased to have several members make the trip out to the shop to spend the afternoon.
Being part of a local rug hooking group has been a very good experience for Roy and Blake as well as for The Roost. To begin we have met many rug hookers who have become friends as well as producers for the shop. Here you see works by two of these friends that we are pleased to have for sale.
In addition Roy and Blake have had many opportunities to learn from members of the group through the weekly get-togethers as well as through courses such as Joan Foster’s “Hook your Home“ course. Here is a very proud Blake with his hooking of The Roost, completed in the two day workshop.
Here is Roy’s completed work of Janis’ mother’s home in Lark Harbour which he proudly presented to her as a Valentine’s Day gift.
