These miniature killicks would make a perfect Christmas tree ornament and the perfect souvenir of Newfoundland for a gift or keepsake. A killick is a handmade anchor which was used back as far as the 16th century. It is formed on a wooden base with pointed ends and strips of wood or tree branches wrapped around one or more stones. The stones weigh the anchor down and the wooden frame digs into the seabed. It’s simple construction made it convenient and practical. These miniatures are 3-4 inches tall (7.6-12.7 cm) tall and are completely handmade by Levi Rose of Burgeo Newfoundland.
